Accessibility
SMRTscan should work for everyone who runs a small business, including people who use a screen reader, keyboard, switch control, magnification or larger text. This page explains what we aim for, where we fall short today, and how to tell us when something doesn't work.
Our commitment
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, level AA on smrtscan.app and to follow the same standard in the SMRTscan iOS and Android apps. We're based in Ontario and also follow the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA).
What we do
- Website: every page has a language set, one main heading, labelled navigation and enough colour contrast for text. It works with a keyboard alone, and animations stop when your device is set to reduce motion.
- Apps: buttons have spoken labels for VoiceOver and TalkBack, text grows with your device's text-size setting, and status is shown with words or icons, not colour alone.
- Testing: we check website pages with automated accessibility testing (axe-core) and run an accessibility check on the app code before each release.
Known limitations
- Older app screens: we're adding spoken labels to every icon-only button in the apps. Until that's finished, some icon buttons on older screens may be read as just "button".
- Very large text: to keep forms and receipts readable, the apps cap text scaling at 120% of the system size on some screens. Use your device's zoom or magnifier if you need it larger.
- Scanned documents: receipt and document images you scan are stored as pictures. The details SMRTscan extracts from them (merchant, date, totals) are available as text, but the image itself has no description.
- Exported PDFs and spreadsheets: reports you export may not be fully tagged for screen readers. The same figures are available as text in the app.
- Third-party screens: sign-in with Apple or Google, payments and app store pages are run by those companies, and we can't control their accessibility.
Report a problem or ask for help
If something on this website or in the app doesn't work with your setup, or you need information in another format, email support@smrtscan.app. Tell us the page or screen, your device, and any assistive technology you use (for example VoiceOver on iPhone). We'll reply within 2 business days and tell you when it's fixed.
